Be In The Know

With the recent changes in Tallahassee and Washington, it is more important than ever to stay on top of political developments that affect your family and community. Here are resources that will help you stay in the know as a concerned citizen or an aspiring candidate for office.

-- Ruth's List Florida offers a full range of resources and services for progressive Democratic women who want to run for state and local office. If you are thinking about throwing your hat in the ring now or sometime in the future, start with a careful look at what things you need to consider beforing declaring your candidacy.  For coaching and tips, contact Ellis Robinson at Ruth's List (Ellis@RuthsListFL.org or 239/472-9159).  Also ask for the booklet Thinking of Running for Office, A Guide for Democratic Women Candidates.

--  Progress Florida is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2008, with the mission of promoting progressive values through online organization, media outreach, and networking with Florida's leading progressive organizations. Click here to join their network and receive timely reports on political issues and actions throughout Florida.  Their "Daily Clips" service is a great way to keep tabs on progressive issues around the state.

--  EMILY's List  was founded 25 years ago and is dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women to federal office.  EMILY's List has been a best friend to Ruth's List, helping us launch, and providing training and financial support.  It's a great partnership: EMILY's List covers federal races and governerships, and Ruth's List covers state, county, and local races here in Florida. You can sign up for news feeds and other timely information by clicking here to go to Emily's List's website.

--  Supervisor of Elections for your county provides important information on voter registration, upcoming elections, and other things you will want to know as an involved citizen. Click on this link, click on your county on the map, and call your Supervisor of Elections.
